Free, no account, and your rooms are yours.

ClassMapr is made and run by Classhelpr — one teacher in Alberta, Canada. "We" below is that one person. Using ClassMapr means you accept these terms; if you don't, don't use it.

Mapr is built for teachers and other adults planning a classroom. Not for students — there's no student-facing part of it. It's offered to anyone, anywhere, in English, and teaching outside Canada is expected rather than exceptional.

Nothing. No account, no card, no trial that ends, no usage cap. What is free today is listed on the accounts page, and that list stays free and stays usable with no account.

You're not buying anything, which cuts both ways: no service level, no support contract, no promise about how fast a problem gets fixed. We fix what we can, when we can.

Everything you build — layouts, class lists, rules, exported charts — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, no licence over it, no right to use it. That's easy to promise today because none of it reaches us, and it stays true for a room you sync once accounts exist: storing your data on your behalf isn't a claim on it.

Mapr itself — its code, design, name and the Classhelpr mark — stays ours. These terms don't give you rights to the branding.

Mapr does not decide what you type into a class list. If you enter student names, that information is in your hands and your employer's, under whatever obligations apply where you teach — FERPA and your district's policies in the United States, UK or EU data protection law, FOIP or PIPA in Canada, or the local equivalent. The privacy policy answers each of those directly.

Mapr helps by keeping the data on your device, and by working just as well with first names, initials or nicknames. What's appropriate to type in — and who sees the screen or the printed chart afterwards — is yours to judge.

Please don't type anything sensitive beyond what a seating chart needs. No field in Mapr wants a medical note, an assessment code or a home address.

Rooms are stored by your browser on your device. Browsers throw that storage away for all sorts of ordinary reasons: clearing browsing data, private windows, running low on space, a managed school profile being reset, an IT reimage, or a different browser on the same computer.

We have no copy of a local room and can't recover one for you. Saving your rooms to a file is the backup, and it takes one press — on your rooms list, under “Moving computers”. That file opens on this computer or any other one, and it holds your class lists in plain text, so keep it the way you would keep a printed roster. Exporting a chart as PNG or PDF saves the picture, not the room. If accounts open, a synced room gets a second home — rooms you keep local stay exactly as described here.

Do not:

• Use Mapr for anything unlawful, or to harass or harm anyone.
• Attack, overload or interfere with the service, or try to break into parts of it that aren't yours.
• Scrape or automate it at a scale that costs us money, or resell access to it as your own.
• Strip the branding and pass it off as your product.

Using Mapr for your whole school, showing it to colleagues, or printing charts for the entire staffroom is not on that list. Do all of that.

Mapr is a small free tool and it may be down, broken or slow. Features may change or be removed, and the app may be discontinued. If we ever shut it down, your rooms are still in your browser — but export anything you want to keep long term.

Because there's no account, we can't email you when something changes. There's no announcement list either, so this page and the app itself are where a change shows up.

Accounts are not open and nothing is for sale. Sync, multi-device and the other account features are built but switched off for everyone.

If that changes, paid tiers will come with their own terms shown before you pay, and nothing free today gets moved behind a payment without notice. You will never be charged for something you did not deliberately buy.

Mapr is hosted by Railway, with its database — and its crash reports — on Supabase in Montreal. One thing hands data to someone else without you pressing anything: a counting service called Umami, which records that someone arrived and can't identify who. One more does it only when you press it: the feedback form is a Google Form. There is no mailing list, so nothing here sends an email address anywhere.

On those pages, their terms and privacy policies apply as well as these. What each one receives is set out in the privacy policy.

Mapr is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee it will be available, error-free, or that a chart it produces suits your class, your room or your division's expectations.

Auto Fill is a solver working to the rules you set. When rules conflict it still seats everyone rather than giving up, which means a chart can satisfy fewer rules than you asked for. Read the chart before you use it — that judgment is yours, not the solver's.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using Mapr — lost rooms, lost time, or anything that follows from a seating chart being wrong, unavailable or seen by someone it shouldn't have been.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited. Since Mapr is free and takes no payment, any liability that does apply is limited to the amount you paid for it.

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and the courts of Alberta have jurisdiction over any dispute.

That does not take away rights you have where you live. If you are a consumer in the EU, the UK or anywhere with mandatory local consumer or data protection rights, those still apply and nothing here waives them — including the right to bring a matter to your own regulator or local courts where the law gives you that.

When the product changes, these terms change with it and the effective date at the top moves. Continuing to use Mapr after that means accepting the updated version.
